In November 2002, the Belmont Community sadly lost a very dear and special member, Denise Harrod. Denise will always be remembered for her warmth and friendliness and as a person who was always ready to help anyone. She worked extremely hard, as Chairman of the Ladies Guild, as a member of the Board of Management and the Executive, whilst still making time to serve on many other committees in the Shul.

Everything Denise did, she did with speed and efficiency, but most of all with a good heart and a smile. She cheered up many a member on her hospital visits, with her genuine warmth and offers of practical help.

There was a strong feeling within the Community that her life and her work for the Shul should be commemorated with an enduring and practical memorial and to this end it has been decided to commission a Sefer Torah in her name, which will be used, as Denise would have wished, for the benefit of the whole Community.

We are delighted that the appeal has reached its target in under 6 months. We now how sufficient funds in place to instruct the Sofer to start writing the Sefer Torah. Rabbi Moshe Flumenbaum in Israel will be undertaking this task and it is anticipated that the Sefer will be with us by October.

The Hachnasat Sefer Torah (dedication ceremony) will take place on Shabbat 4 December 2004 at Belmont Shul. Details of the arrangements will be posted on this site nearer the time.
