Welcome!
Dear Interneter,
We warmly welcome and thank you for viewing our webpage. Here in Birmingham we are a medium sized (by UK standards - we have about 3,000 souls in this region) but vibrant and dedicated Jewish community. We are however, the biggest community in the West Midlands in England and the fifth largest in Great Britain. Other relatively smaller Jewish communities exist in neighbouring Solihull and Coventry.
Hospitality and opportunities
It is because our community is not as large as those in Leeds, Manchester and London that everyone counts and everyone is counted. We offer lots of opportunities to our members to actively involve themselves in maintaining and developing the quality of Jewish religious, social, educational and cultural life. Our community is renowned as one of the most hospitable in Great Britain and we have a number of support networks from cradle to old age which enable our people to enrich their lives in a range of domains.
'Jew'els in our Crown
One of our prides and joys is our King David primary school which is attended by children from a number of religions but which is run with a Jewish ethos and provides for all children religious education and lessons in modern Hebrew (Ivrit). The other jewel in our crown is Andrew Cohen House which provides residence and care for senior and frail people. We are extremely proud that all congregations interact and live in harmony. We have one progressive and two orthodox congregations with four synagogues to choose from.
Amenities and facilities
Birmingham itself is also the second largest city in Great Britain with a total multicultural population of over a million people. It boasts a great number of facilities which any large city can and should have, from beautifully tendered parks to wine bars, educational, social, sports and other leisure and entertainment facilities. It is one of the most thriving commercial centres in Great Britain with a range of businesses and professions providing a large number of opportunities for work.
Affordable accommodation
Accommodation is relatively inexpensive. For example, in a typical residential area where Jewish people live (e.g. Moseley or Edgbaston) you can purchase a two bedroom flat for under £100,000 or a three bedroom house from just under £200,000. There are of course other areas in the vicinity which offer cheaper residential property.
But then, why am I going on when you can find this type of information in the content of this web page!
There will be a warm welcome for YOU
Rest assured that we are actively striving to attract more Jewish brothers and sisters to join us and to settle here. Could this be YOU and your family and friends? Come on, give us a try - we shall welcome you with open arms.
