US SHABBAT - 2nd December 2000
In conjunction with every other community of the United Synagogue, Central Synagogue held a special Shabbat Service focusing on the themes and beauty of Shabbat. The Chief Rabbi, Professor Jonathan Sacks delivered a most stirring sermon. The service was followed by a Shabbaton lunch in our banqueting hall attended by 105 members and guests. There, Mrs Elaine Sacks gave a most eloquent and enjoyable address. The title of the Shabbat was that "Shabbat turns strangers into friends". Everyone left feeling they had made new friends.

SELICHOT - 23rd September 2000
The special Selichot Service held at Central Synagogue was the only Selichot Service held in Central London. It was a joint service between the congregations of Central Synagogue, Western Marble Arch, and New West End. Following a welcome by our own Rabbi Marcus, an address was given by Rabbi Dr Abner Weiss of Marble Arch. The 200 or so congregants then heard an excellent service led by Chazan Jonathan Murgraff and Chazan Israel Singer beautifully backed by the London Jewish Male Voice Choir.
