Children's "Discover Israel" Area

The aim of the Children's Discover Israel Area is to enable children and their families to experience a visit to 'Israel'.

Departure Area/Discover Israel Challenge - As people come down the carriage staircase, they will be immediately faced with the large aeroplane. They will be invited into the departure lounge to collect a bag containing a boarding card1 Departure Area - As people come down the carriage staircase, they will be immediately faced with the large aeroplane. They will be invited into the departure lounge for a bag to collect information and a boarding card. and a passport amongst other goodies! The passport will enable children to "Discover Israel" in an interactive simulation game.

El Al Aeroplane - The centre piece of the Discovery Area will be a 35 foot long model aeroplane visible from all round. Once on board, there will be the opportunity to play with an interactive dashboard, and to view a short video similar to the El Al video with the jingle "latoos El Al".

Caesarea - Stage Show The historical significance of Caesarea will be conveyed through the Amphitheatre, which will act as the stage for children's entertainment and performances throughout the day. The Children' s Stage Show will include performers from the UK and Israel including Uzi Chitman and Chanoch Rosen. There will also be special guest appearances by Ayal Berkovic, Ronnie Rosenthal and Alon Chazan.

Caesarea - Archaeological Dig Alongside the stage will be an 'archaeological dig' where children can 'delve' into history and search for hidden treasures.

Tel Aviv Café - Absorb yourself in the bustle of Tel Aviv. Refreshments including sweets will be available to buy throughout the day.

Kibbutz Tzora - Against a backdrop of orange trees that can be picked, this area will feature a 'milking the cow game' and a Kibbutz jigsaw game, both designed to show aspects of the kibbutz life.

Haifa Technion - Israel's technological achievements will be conveyed through the 'Technion computer area', where Israel-focused games can be played.

Negev ExperienceThe desert area of the Negev will be created complete with tent and camel! Play games and dress up as a bedouin or another Israeli character.

Mount Hermon This eye catching attraction is a giant inflatable mountain, which can be climbed by two children in a competitive game.

Jerusalem - A central feature of this area will be a model of the Kotel (Western Wall) in which people will be able to leave messages. During the day young people will fax these direct to Jerusalem. There will be a live view of the Kotel through the Internet (computer). In this way children and families will experience a live link up with Jerusalem. This area will also feature a number of Jerusalem related games.

Tzfat - The artistic side of Tzfat will be featured in this area through arts and crafts workshops.

Rishon Le Zion This cellar area will feature a wine press demonstration.

Eilat - The popular image of Eilat as the capital of the Red Sea will be conveyed through shells, sand and palm trees, as well as an aquarium of exotic fish. You will even be able to test your agility on the jet ski machine.

Netanya - The 'fun and sun' side of Israel will be created in 'Netanya', where the beach will have buckets and spades for young children to play with. Older children will be able to create Israel sand art pictures with brightly coloured sand. For watersport enthusiasts a surfing simulator will provide the entertainment!

By 'visiting' Israel at the Children's Discover Israel Area, children and their families will have the opportunity to experience Israel in a day, reminding them of the importance of Israel in their lives.

"OUT OF THE WILDERNESS"
A photographic exhibition of Israel at 50
By David Katz

Photographer David Katz has recently spent four months living Israel undertaking a unique photographic documentation of life in Israel.

David experienced the same day to day life that most ordinary Israelis live, in order to portray through his camera the ups and downs and the hopes and fears of a country coming into its 50th year. The photographs reflect that with all it's problems and difficulties Israel has still managed to make such an impact and difference.

These very emotive pictures will be displayed at Wembley giving a balanced and political insight into Israel, a country where events and circumstances are constantly changing.

David has captured real warmth through his photography and feelings for the country. This is reflected in his work with a developed understanding of Israel and all the people that live there. The viewer is left with an insight into what life is really like in Israel 50 years on.

Passport Challenge

The celebrations at Wembley will include an all-day youth programme, which will have as its focus area the Youth Zone on the first floor. The programme will involve any teenager who arrives on the day, whether from a youth movement or non-affiliated background, in a series of activities that they can take part in, in their own time.

It will work as follows: a teenager will arrive and register, either with their youth movement or another youth stall, situated in the Youth Zone. They will receive a youth guide, outlining all the activities that are being run. There will be eight different stations or activities that will be run continuously during the day. The participant will be able to take part in as many or as few as they wish. For each one they take part in, they fill in their details on a relevant form that will be included in their youth guide and hand it in to the station organiser.

The day will culminate in a magnificent ceremony in front of two thousand people, outlining the unique contribution of the Zionist Youth movements, and youth generally to the State of Israel. The 'incentive' to attend will be a grand prize which will be awarded from amongst all the forms submitted throughout the day.

Lecture Programme

There will be a series of lectures given by top academics, journalists and economists looking at a number of issues throughout the day.

Each lecture will last 30-40 minutes and there will be an opportunity for questions from the audience. One thousand people are estimated to attend the ten lectures throughout the day.
